Happy, smiling, ever curious puppers and their doting humans stole the show on Sunday morning, as they trooped into Madhapur, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, to take part in the ‘Heart & Sole Run 2022’, the first ever ‘dogathon’ in town. That’s right! It was a run for dogs, to raise funds for dogs, among other causes.
Over 400 Hyderabadis gathered as early as 6:30 am on Sunday morning to kickstart the unique run, which had three categories – a 2.5km dogathon, a 10 k run and a 42 km marathon, which was flagged off by T Srinivas Rao, DCP Traffic, Cyberabad.
While the day kickstarted with the marathon, the highlight of the morning was the dogathon, which witnessed participation from dogs of different breeds – from tiny toy poodles to big Siberian huskies. In the end, Skye, a Siberian husky (in thumbnail) won the dogathon, while being cheered on by her humans.
“We raised Rs 10 lakh through this event, the proceeds of which will go to four different causes – the welfare of stray animals, to support a women’s charitable clinic, towards the menstrual hygiene of women, and mental health of children at orphanages,” said Ashmit Tainwala, one of the organisers.
